Antique Portuguese cotton fabric measuring 12.5 inches by 18 inches. This piece was part of a museum deascension and it has a catalog tag on the back "Portuguese Chintz". It is cotton, but does not have the feel of what I think a chintz has. The ground is off white with animals and leaves and flowers in yellow, green, and red. There are rabbits, goats, birds, and another animal I am unable to distinguish. Because I am unfamiliar with Portuguese fabrics, I am having a problem dating this piece, but it was described as between 18th to 19th century, and based on the design registration being slightly off and the dye saturation to the back, I am pretty sure this is a copperplate block print. The fabric is in very good condition, no spots or holes. There is a machine finished hem on one edge, so this is a recycled textile.
