Antique cigar silk quilt from circa 1900, measuring only 19 inches by 19 inches. The cigar silks are mostly yellow gold with black writing, and some red. It appears they are not pieced together in the traditional method, rather they are embroidered together. Every seam is hand embroidered in yellow thread in a feather stitch. It is bound in a black faille fabric, machine on top, and by hand in the back. It is backed in an off white sateen, and tied in white thread to the front, rather than quilted.
There are 65 silks. They include cigar and cigarette brands such as Gossip, Reina Victoria, Juniors, Blackstone, Queen, IH, MCA, Londres Extra, Little Gold Dust, Middelsex, Old 49, Road Corner, Panetelas Finas, Coquetas, Pippins, Star Eagle, Electric, Harvard Ponies, Thomas and Moore, and many others. There are other silks, possibly not tobacco related such as Our Veterans, Rugby, Harvard, and Pentucket Club.
These pieces are extremely collectible not only for its’ quilt value, but for it’s tobacco collectible value.
It is in excellent condition, no shattering or splits, holes, spots…perfect.
