| Antique, 19th century, cotton work bag measuring 17 by 22 inches. The bag is made up of 2 toile kerchief prints. One side has Marie die Tochter des Regiments (Daughter of the Regiment), an opera set in the early 1800s. Marie is holding a drum, which is typical, and is standing with a French officer in front of an encampment. His arms are folded and is turned away, so I do not think it is Tonio, her love. The other side is titled Disharmonie (Disharmony) and quite cleverly pictures 4 men fighting with musical instruments. There is a clarinet, violen, cello, and a slide trombone. A dog is in the mix, too. Both textiles are frame with a prussion blue with white and brown border, Marie's border is squares, Disharmonie is striped. There is a green twill tape drawstring. The bag is in fair condition. There are previous repairs as well as more splits. |
